01 - 1 cup pearl barley
02 - 3 cups water

03 - 2-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and thinly sliced
04 - 1 cinnamon stick
05 - 1/4 teaspoon salt

06 - 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (optional)
07 - 1 cup milk or non-dairy milk
08 - 1/4 cup chopped toasted nuts
09 - 1/2 cup fresh fruit

# How-To Steps:

01 - Rinse the barley thoroughly under cold running water to remove excess starch and debris.
02 - In a medium saucepan, combine barley, water, sliced ginger, cinnamon stick, and salt.
03 - Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the barley is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed.
04 - Remove the cinnamon stick and ginger slices. Stir in honey or maple syrup (if using) and milk. Simmer uncovered for another 3–5 minutes, until creamy.
05 - Spoon into bowls and top with toasted nuts and fresh fruit. Serve immediately.
