01 - Rinse the rice under cold running water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
02 - In a medium saucepan, combine the rice, water, and salt (if using). Stir once.
03 - Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
04 - Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover tightly with a lid, and simmer for 15 minutes.
05 - Remove from heat and let the rice sit, covered, for 5 minutes to steam.
06 - Fluff the rice gently with a fork. Stir in butter or olive oil if desired, and serve warm.
